2009 FCCLA Runway Project The Galesburg Sewing Center co-sponsors the FCCLA Runway Project Event each Spring. Participants are given guidelines and the encouragement to explore their imagination. The top three creations are awarded Brother sewing machines donated by Dave and Rebecca Gillett, owners of the Galesburg Sewing Centers. Presenting this year's awards, we were honored to have designers Daniel Feld and Wesley Nault, Season 5 Project Runway competitors. Daniel and Wesley presented this year's winner, Gabrielle Davis with a Brother LB6770 Project Runway sewing and embroidery machine and her school received a Brother Project Runway Innovis-40 sewing machine. With her winning entry, Gabrielle Davis of Dwight Township High School, was a crowd favorite. Gabrielle constructed an American version of a Japanese Kimono using men's silk neckties. This delightful 14 year old demonstrates unique talent and creativity. Second place was awarded to Tori Hohgrefe of Trico High School in Campbell, Illinois and third place was awarded to Stefanie James of Reed Custer High School in Braidwood, Illinois. Both students received Brother sewing machines. Participating in the 2009 Illinois Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Leadership Conference provides a unique experience to see the younger generation stepping into the fashion apparel fields. Spending a day with 3,000 enthusiastic students and teachers, representing 350 statewide schools, proves that this craft is still alive and thriving.
