The Galesburg Sewing Center started out as a Singer sewing machine/piano and organ retail outlet in downtown Galesburg in 1857. This makes us one of the oldest retail stores in town! As the years went by the store was converted to a company owned store in 1930's. During WWII, Singer quit producing the sewing machine and manufactured Pratt and Witney aircraft engines and Army issued 45 cal. Weapons. At this period of time the store sold reconditioned sewing machines.

In December 1981, Dave and Rebecca Gillett purchased the Galesburg Singer store from The Singer Company. They added Bernina sewing machines in 1983. With the business growing, we added 2 more store locations in the 80's and 90's, located in Peoria, IL and Bloomington, IL. We then added Brother and Viking sewing machines to the line. Currently we service all the Von Maurs alteration departments located in 6 Midwest States as well as over 140 area schools, plus, several state and private college theater departments. Our company goal is to provide complete service to our customers. We live by the motto: Service--Satisfaction  Guaranteed!
